Spice and wolf novels10/12/2023 ![]() ![]() His only companion is his deprecating thoughts and his horse, until he comes across the fabled Wolf Goddess of the Harvest. Spice & Wolf is the story about Lawrence who is a lonely merchant trying to get rich and open his own shop. Which is huge, considering I really want more light novels for women published here. Thankfully, Spice & Wolf caters beautifully to readers who want more than your average "fanservice" big boobed anime girls and tsundere lolis. As such, it's very difficult for myself to care for them when I honestly want something with more substance. Light novels sold in the US are predominately cheap, smutty fanfiction filled with underage girls sold to a predominately male audience. "Though he might travel the world and amass a great fortune, the one thing Lawrence could never have was right here." Come to think of it there seems to be an aweful lot of wheat on the floor. She's even started howling at the moon and eating apples by the bushels. That slow pacing is going to drive the love of my life crazy. My one complaint, the books are being released once every six months and the first volume is still fresh on the shelves. If you are looking for a great love story with outstanding dialogue do not fail to become a fan of this series. Everytime the reader is given just a little glimpse at the love growing between Lawrence and Holo the two seem forced to take three steps back. Isuna has created two very intelligent and crafty characters that seem to have Murphy's Law following them at every turn. Spice and Wolf, while there seems to be some controversy over the English translation of the title, is very unique in its presentation of a classic "slow build" love story. #Spice and wolf novels series#"Then" I discover it's based on a series of popular novels. We watched through all thirteen episodes in two days. The first chance I had I bought the first season. Please, let me find something else." And after being shushed I listened to the dialogue and sat through the remainder of the episode in pure disbelief. I think fantasy lovers would really enjoy this, and it would be a nice place to start if you want to get into light-novels and manga.īlog | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram | Youtube | TwitchĪmazing what happens when you're flipping through channels looking for something to watch and your significant other says, "Stop!" So, I stopped and saw this woman with animal ears and rolled my eyes. This story read very beautifully, and I feel like it was translated well. There was a lot to the story and plot, and the character development (as slow as it might be) was also exceptional. This was actually very meaty, and took me two nights to read. When I saw it only had a prologue, six chapters and then an epilogue, I thought it would only take me about an hour to read. This book was much longer and much more thought provoking than I thought it would be. I think I want to continue on with this series mostly just to see their happy ending (they better get a happy ending). Lawrence and Horo are both such lonely creatures that truly do not deserve to be. This is a romance, but it's the definition of slow-burn romance. This will not be the last time we see these two companies or the church, I'm sure. Lawrence and Horo get wrapped up with two companies, with very similar names might I add, that have much more power than they do. The main sub-plot surrounds the coin system and silver purity. This book heavily focuses on economics, but it isn't overwhelming. Lawrence agrees to help Horo get north, while Horo promises to help his sales to earn her keep. Obviously, Lawrence's new travel friend would cause a problem if anyone found out that she's really a Pagan god, so Horo is constantly hiding her "special additions". Her life depends on a sheaf of wheat that Lawrence has in his cart. The adorable god he finds is Horo, a wolf god! She can shift between forms, even though it's not the most convenient of ways, but in human form she is still left with cute little wolf ears and a tail. This doesn't affect Lawrence what-so-ever, until he finds one of these old gods sleeping in his wagon cart after a Pagan harvest festival. Lawrence is a traveling merchant that is very trusted throughout the land, even though that land is very heavily controlled by the church, who will do anything to make sure the gods from the past are no longer worshiped. “I'll always remember that you chose me.” ![]()

Dalton atomic theory10/12/2023 ![]() Dalton also observed that given elements can combine in different proportions to form more than one compound, for example, carbon and oxygen can form two different compounds. This provided support to Proust’s law of definite proportions. He observed that a compound always contains the same proportion of elements by mass. While studying gases, Dalton discovered elements always combines in a fixed proportion based on mass or volume to form a compound. It was his intense interest in the atmosphere led him to study gases and consequently, resulted in the atomic theory. He daily maintained records of the weather for fifty-seven years. Dalton had a deep interest in meteorology. He is famous for his atomic theory and law of partial pressure and, his research on colour blindness. A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms.ĭalton was not only a chemist but also a physicist and meteorologist.Atoms are neither destroyed or created This is also true in a chemical reaction. These atoms always combine in simple ratios to give a compound. Compounds are formed from the combination of two or more atoms of different elements.Different elements have different atoms, which differ with each other in mass and chemical properties. For a given element, all its atoms are identical in mass and properties.Atoms are fundamental particles which are indestructible and indivisible. Matter consists of small particles called atoms. The postulates of Dalton’s atomic theory, which he materialised in 1808, are discussed below. He published his work in the book A New Chemical Philosophy. To support all previous works and his law of multiple proportions, he formulated the atomic theory. Few years after Proust’s law, Dalton came with his law of multiple proportions in 1803. It was a controversial law at that time because many chemists opposed the law. In the same century, Proust, also a French chemist, proposed his law of definite proportions. This law pushed curious chemists to investigate and better understand chemical reactions. He proposed matter is always conservation in a chemical reaction. In 1773, French chemist Lavoisier had discovered the law of conservation of matter. Democritus called these fundamental, indivisible particles as atomos. A similar idea was also conjectured by Democritus, an ancient Greek philosopher. ![]() Kanada was an ancient Indian philosopher, who talked about the existence of indivisible particles, which he called anu. 4 Limitations or Drawbacks of Dalton’s Atomic TheoryĪlthough the Dalton stated his atomic theory in 1803, the notion of the existence of atoms goes far back two millennia. ![]() Dalton’s theory provided a foundation for modern chemistry. Modern atomic theory is much different from what Dalton had proposed, but some of the ideas of the theory are still valid. Dalton’s atomic theory was the first scientific atomic theory based on his experiments and examinations of previous scientific works. But this fact was a mystery until the end of the 18 th century when Dalton, an English chemist, proposed his atomic theory. Today, we know every matter around us is composed of atoms. ![]()

Suzerain vassal treaty deuteronomy10/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Sinai with the first generation of Israelites. ![]() A suzerainty-vassal treaty was entered into at Mt. They could only agree to accept or reject whatever the suzerain offered. As the weaker member, vassals had no power to negotiate or change the terms of the treaty. In these types of treaties, a dominant party, the suzerain (God/Jehovah), set the terms of an agreement with a subordinate party, the vassal (Israel). Through eternal covenants, God becomes an active partner who promises to “sustain, sanctify, and exalt” those who actively strive “to serve him and keep his commandments.” The scriptures indicate that God made covenants with Adam and Eve (see Moses 5:4–8, 6:64–68) and scholars have demonstrated that “the new and everlasting covenant made with is the same covenant that made with Abraham and Sarah and renewed with Israel at Mount Sinai.” Suzerainty-vassal TreatiesĪ type of covenant that was common in the Middle East at the time of Moses was suzerainty-vassal treaties. An eternal covenant is an agreement between an individual and God in which God sets the terms. Through modern revelation, we learn that God accomplishes his work to “bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39) through eternal covenants. Understanding the treaty structure helps us see that Deuteronomy is not just a speech, but also a covenant-renewal document. Though Deuteronomy is a farewell speech, it is presented in the form of ancient Near Eastern suzerainty-vassal treaties of the second millennium B.C.He said, “Do you read as though you stood in the place of the men who wrote them? If you do not feel thus, it is your privilege to do so.” If we ask, “Why did Moses include this as part of his final speech?” then we will find a lot more to enjoy. President Brigham Young’s wise counsel can be easily applied to our study of Deuteronomy. And, if we are willing to stop and consider why Moses included the information he did, we will find more meaning. Moses’ farewell speech is actually comprised of three separate discourses that can be broken down into a simple organizational format as follows:Īs we utilize this basic structure, we can make sense of the speech and get past what feels like monotonous review. Upon learning that Deuteronomy was a farewell speech, one man humorously remarked that it had to be “the longest farewell speech in the history of the world.” Though it may feel like that, good speeches, no matter their length, have an organizational structure that can help us navigate them. ![]() It reminds, it instructs, it encourages, and it invites. Therefore, the repetition in Deuteronomy has legitimate purposes for the present generation of Israelites. The first generation of Israelites, the generation that Moses freed from Egyptian bondage, had all died during the forty years in the wilderness. Sinai when the law of Moses was given, you will no longer see the book as a boring repeat of everything you’ve read before. If you approach the book as a farewell speech to a group of people who had not experienced Egyptian slavery, who had not experienced deliverance from Egypt, and who had not been at Mt. Remember that Deuteronomy contains Moses’ final words to a new generation of Israelites as they prepare to enter the long-awaited promised land. Why study it again? And if we do study it again, how can we get meaning out of it? Here are five helpful suggestions. After diligently wading through the first four books of the Old Testament, the repetitiousness of the fifth book can feel very much like a brutal exercise in intellectual torture because we feel like we’ve read it all before. In Hebrew, “eleh ha-devarim,” means “these are the words.” In ancient Greek, “Deuteronómion” means a “copy” or a “repetition” of the law. It is the last book of the Jewish “Torah.” The word Deuteronomy itself may be enough to intimidate all but the most determined and dedicated students of the scriptures. ![]()

Fitbit vs amazon halo10/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Photos and scans remain on your phone only. Indeed, you do have to strip down to your smalls to capture the imagery.Īmazon says the images required to create the scans are processed in the cloud and then deleted. When Halo was announced, this is the feature that spawned half-serious “Amazon wants your nudes” headlines. If you’re a person who takes mirror photos for the before/after social media post, you’ll probably enjoy this. The app tracks progress over time, enabling you to browse previous scans for signs of visual change. I’m not revealing my body fat percentage (or the scans) but the Halo had my body fat percentage 5% higher than Eufy. I use a Eufy model with body composition data. The wristband itself is uninvolved.įor someone carrying lockdown timber and still avoiding gyms and yoga studios, this was humbling.Īmazon says its readings are twice as accurate as the top smart scales. The Halo app offers a body scanning tool, which creates a 3D model based on head-to-ankle photographs from four angles. This feature could be interesting if you’re practicing public speaking, or rehearsing for a job interview, for example. I told the dog what a good boy he was, and the indicator jumped to the top of ‘Positivity and High Energy’ axis and I was deemed to be happy, delighted and appreciative. With each word, you’ll see your voice move around the positivity and energy graph, complete with analysis of how you’re sounding. You can use this to practice or record a conversation for an analysis of how you came across. There is a useful Live tab offering real-time analysis. If you want this feature to be more active, you can switch to More Tone in the settings, but that scythes battery life in half. There are times I’d expected to see lots of activity, but didn’t. Halo generally identified about 5-6 very brief phrases each day. Where’s Alexa to record everything when you need it? What exactly had I said here? But Halo isn’t monitoring what you say, just how you say it. However, this left me wanting to dive deeper. At one point, I was apparently delighted and annoyed within the same minute. I was watching Manchester United lose, so it was bang-on. I was watching football the other day and Halo said I sounded “disgusted”. “You had one phrase that sounded stubborn, aggressive or condescending,” the app told us. One Sunday night I had a heated conversation where I sounded “Stubborn” for 2.3 seconds. This can be helpful, if you can connect the dots. If you sounded friendly, sad, restrained, frustrated, hesitant, and so on, you’ll see the time and other emotions detected. Throughout the day, you’ll see in-app cards that inform you when the band has detected variances in tone based on positivity and energy. Are you a high-energy, positive person? Or are you putting negativity out there? How is this affecting your relationships at work and at home?ĭoes your low-energy speech denote tiredness or need for self-care? Are there changes you can make by identifying these trends and being more mindful in future? The idea is to give people insight into how they are being perceived. Utterances are measured against a baseline of normal speech (established by reading Dickens et al during set-up) and the Halo informs you how you sounded during the day based on high/low positivity and energy. #FITBIT VS AMAZON HALO BLUETOOTH#Smartphone connection is enabled by Bluetooth 5.0.Īrguably the most controversial feature is Tone analysis, which uses the microphones to monitor your speech. ![]() The sensor is rated at 5ATM, which means swim tracking and waterproofing to 50 meters, which is a definite bonus. ![]()

Best white noise machine for migraines10/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() In general, I like the noise colors that sound like a very regular waterfall. Here is one variation of what I call dark-brown noise (own creation, best appreciated with headphones): These noises are usually named after colors (white noise, pink noise, brown noise, etc.): the darker the color, the lower-pitched the noise. Some white noise machines allow you to choose between different broadband noises. Note: When referring to white noise in this post, I am talking about a whole family of broadband noises, not just “true” white noise (which has the same intensity at all frequencies and is too high-pitched for many purposes). To help with most types of intermittent noise, you can play a white noise machine to boost earplug performance and solve the problem of “too quiet.” Adding “dark-brown” noise as a secret sauce? In fact, against a quiet backdrop (or when wearing earplugs), most intermittent noises can be startling even if they are not very loud. Many people try their best, but sometimes the structure amplifies everything they do… Some neighbors are cooperative and some are light walkers so you hear nothing while their successors may walk on their heels, creating vibrations and resonances in the building. #Best white noise machine for migraines professionalI have since moved apartments/houses and cities multiple times for professional and private reasons. It only soured the relationship over time. Yes, I talked to them-several times, but this didn’t solve the problem. In the end, I would lie in my bed wide awake, unable to get any sleep until the early morning. A few bouts of heavy walking were virtually guaranteed. It didn’t really matter when I tried to retire for the night. When I went to bed earlier, stomping would wake me up several times until I couldn’t fall back asleep. I would go to bed at perhaps 11 pm and soon thereafter the couple upstairs would come home and start walking back and forth-on top of my bedroom. Years ago, I had my first experience with prolonged insomnia when new neighbors moved into the upstairs apartment and started living at around midnight every single night. ![]()
